Being a Christian Church, we celebrate marriage in the context of worship and we expect that at least one of the marriage couple is a practicing member of a faith community. Our Priest must receive reasonable notice of a couple's intention to get married. This is a canonical requirement of the Anglican Church of Canada. It is intended as a waiting period so that the couple may duly consider their proposed marriage and reflect upon the concerns and conditions of married life. They should plan on two or more counseling sessions with the priest. St. Michael's strongly encourages all couples to attend Marriage Preparation Classes. These can be done with your own pastor, church, community or through the Anglican Diocese. We would appreciate a copy of your certificate of completion. It is a legal requirement in the province of Alberta to obtain a Marriage License. This license is valid for 90 days and may be obtained from any Alberta Registries Agency. Please call them to make an appointment at least a day in advance. When applying, photo ID, passport or driver’s license will be required from both of you. The cost is approx. $95.00. Please bring the marriage license with you to the rehearsal. There is no objection to pictures and video being taken in the church. The photographer must speak to the priest for media captured during the ceremony. Our community is blessed with many talented musicians, of which a list can be provided, for you to contact to discuss their fee, as this is not part of the rental cost. Alternatively, you may bring other musicians of your choice, or use pre-recorded music on CD or i-pod/phone, providing it is appropriate for a sacred space, and approved by the priest. St. Michael’s Wedding Host will assist with your rehearsal and wedding day arrangements in our church. Decorating, Flowers, Candles should be discussed with her. Extreme care should be taken to respect our historic building and preserve our furnishings. Please contact us to discuss fees. A non-refundable deposit of $250.00 is required to hold the wedding date.
