St. Michael Anglican Church
Second Sunday After Epiphany - January 14th 2024
Scribblings from the Desk of the Interim Priest.

Scribblings from the Desk of the Interim Priest.

Greetings in the name of our Lord – Well, the last days of the Christmas Season are rapidly drawing to a close, we have turned the calendar, and I have completed 1/3 of my contracted time with you.
To say that it at times has been a blur is to be given to understatement. The time has flown by.
It would appear that it will not slow up. I am not sure if that is ‘age related’ or simply so many things to do and seemingly so little time to do them. For those who had not heard and for those who perhaps heard and had not remembered, there are a number of changes ahead of us at St. Michaels.
First, as I said here before we are moving to have worship in the old church building and the larger worship space (the hall) on alternating Sundays. So the 1 st & 3 rd Sundays of the month the service will be in the old church and the 2 nd & 4 th Sundays the worship will be in the larger worship space / the hall. I have decided that the worship music will also reflect the setting of the offering of worship. More of that later.
Second, on Sunday, Jan 7 th we will begin the use of the small glass cups of wine as a means to receive the consecrated wine at Communion. Instructions will be offered at each worship service on how to receive until we find the method that suits us best.
Third, a few things are fast approaching. I don’t mean to alarm you, but Lent begins on Ash Wed Feb. 14 th . I plan to be appropriately attired and on that day offer “Ashes to Go”, at the Marra / Stonewaters corner from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. If you wish to join me to assist, please speak to me soon. This also means that Shrove Tuesday is Feb. 13 th . When I was last here for a time of extended ministry we offered a Shrove Tuesday Supper, and the men of the parish took it on. I will be casting about on this Sunday and next for men to assist.
And finally, our AMP (Annual Meeting of Parishioners) is fast approaching the last part of February. Please give ‘prayer filled’ consideration to serving our community of St. Michael in some capacity. I know that given the hours needed and the tasks involved, I am unable to do all the tasks (beside the fact that I should not). There will be shortly a one pager that will outline the various opportunities to serve the community of St. Michael. Please take one with you from worship or from the Bulletin board in the main entrance and consider where God might be nudging you to step up and serve.
With prayer for a wonderful and exciting year of serving together as disciples of Jesus, I am,
Yours in Christ,

Bryan +

On January 12th we remember Marguerite Bourgeoys.

On January 12th we remember Marguerite Bourgeoys.

A French religious sister and founder of the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal.

Marguerite was born in 1620 in Troyes, located in the Champagne region of France. At the age of 20, she underwent profound change in herself following a church procession and later abandoned the frivolities of life. By the time she met Monsieur de Maisonneuve, her leadership qualities and her ability to gather people around a common cause were highly recognized.
