Third Sunday After Epiphany - January 21st 2024
Scribblings from the Desk of the Interim Priest.

Scribblings from the Desk of the Interim Priest.

January 18th.

Well folks there are a lot of things coming up very soon that i wanted you to be aware of so,
I will present them in bullet form below –

1. Shrove Tuesday Supper – Tuesday, Feb 13 th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. I now have about 6 volunteers, so it is looking more possible

2. Ashes to Go – Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14 th from 8:30 – 10:00 at the Stonewater’s / Marra’s Corner. I will offer to apply ashes to those who approach me there. Also, I will have a small packet that describes who we are as a community of followers of Jesus, and which contains a small amount of ashes that they can take home to their family or offer to friends.

3. Ash Wednesday Worship – this will be a 7:00 p.m. service of Worship in the Church. There will be the Imposition of Ashes for those who desire them in the service. It will also be a service of Holy Communion.

4. “Lent in a Bag” is a Lenten offering that I have done before in other places. The Bag has within it objects that encourage individual, family or group reflection on some of the themes of Lent. Please remember Lent is seen now as a time of ‘taking something on’ as opposed to ‘giving something up’. These bags will be available Ash Wed and on the first Sunday of Lent.

5. A Diocesan Zoom Lenten Offering – Bread for the Journey. I will post the details when they arrive. This Thursday Gathering will be via Zoom with a host of different presenters.

6. Holy Week Worship –
Holy Thursday Worship – the commemoration of the Last Supper with the Washing of Feet. This will be a service of Holy Communion. 7:00 p.m. in the Church
Good Friday Worship – there will be one service that day @ 11:00 a.m.
Easter Day Worship – I am planning an 8:45 Worship Service in the Church and a 10:00
a.m. Eucharist of Easter @ 10:00 in the Parish Hall.

I will do my best to keep you informed as Lent approaches. I am away on Retreat this next week. Blessings,
Bryan +

Men's Retreat at Mount St. Francis in Cochrane.

Men's Retreat at Mount St. Francis in Cochrane.

Feb. 2nd -4th 2024.

You are warmly welcomed to attend the Men's Retreat at Mount St. Francis from Friday Feb 2 ,anytime from 5 pm, to Sunday Feb 4 after lunch.

Mount St Francis Retreat is a very peaceful and welcoming place surrounded by the beauty of nature. It is operated by the Franciscans, a Roman Catholic religious community. The week-end silent retreats begin with supper Friday evening and end with lunch on Sunday. It is a wonderful opportunity for spiritual rejuvenation and perspective, deepening one’s faith and relationship with God.  All are welcomed no matter one’s religious affiliation.

The theme of the retreat is: All Things Made New!  St. Francis of Assisi rejoiced in both the splendor and the humility of God that was reflected in creation, the nativity and the cross and resurrection. The compassion he encountered from God and shared with others led him to express joy in his praises of the Most High God. This caused his heart to be made new. As we ponder these insights of St. Francis may our hearts also be made new and filled with joy. There are presentations related to the theme, and lots of time for personal reflection, prayer, and walks on the 500+ acre grounds.

Please feel free to contact Ken Hagel at 7milagro8gmail.com  if you have further questions, and to register for the retreat.

Ken hopes that you can attend and enjoy “re-charging your batteries” and gaining a joyful heart over a peaceful weekend.

On January 21st we remember St.Agnes of Rome.

On January 21st we remember St.Agnes of Rome.

Virgin and martyr.

Traditionally, Agnes was martyred for her faith during the persecution of Emperor Diocletian in the late third century C.E. However, some believe she may have died under Decius in a localized persecution half a century before this. The earliest (late fourth century) sources tell little of her life, other than that she was executed as a Christian at age 12 or 13.
