Scribblings from the Desk of the Interim Priest.Feb. 22nd 2024 Greetings - We are in the Season of Lent. It is a time to take on some kind of spiritual activity or discipline. Please remember that I offered a cautionary note recently about the effect of giving up dark chocolate as a Lenten discipline. In the last few Thursday Emails we listed a host of Lenten Resources that one can access online. We also offered "Lent in a Bag" for any who wished to pick the bag up. If you missed out and still want one please speak to me on Sunday. Now that I have mentioned Sunday, it is our Annual Meeting of Parishioners. This meeting is a time to review our activities over the past year. We are encouraged to read the many reports from parish ministry groups and from our Outreach activities. We will also adopt our Financials for 2023 and adopt a Budget for 2024. (we are functioning on the 2024 Budget already. It was adopted by Parish Council) In the last Thursday email I attached a photo and wrote about my hopes for the community of St. Michael, under the flag of Jesus, having dedicated 'Champions' who would advocate for and promote their particular aspect of our ministry in Jesus' name. I am pleased to let you know that I have had two positive replies, and I am hopeful that there will be more in the days ahead. My purpose in advocating for Ministry Champions was twofold. First, it is to activate more fully each aspect of ministry contained in the drawing under the flag of Jesus and secondly, to be able to present to any prospective clergy candidate who might consider St. Michaels, an active, engaged and forward moving congregation which can function well apart from clergy but who would love to have a leader who would walk alongside of them into their future inspired by God's Spirit. I am hopeful we will be successful both in activation and in the search for a new priest. As the days march toward Sunday, significant time has been spent (with somewhat limited tech ability) to stream the AMP via our Zoom camera (which is great!) using our Parish Facebook Page. Regrettably, we cannot access our parish FB page and so we will have to use mine. If you wish to receive the 'streaming of the AMP' you will need to friend me in my FB page. My page is the one that has a photo of Rita and me at the Nordic Centre with Rundle Mtn in the background. My sincere and heartfelt hope is that we can in the meeting and in days and weeks ahead focus less on past history and more fully on our God given destiny. Yours in Christ, Bryan + |

Ash Wednesday & Lent Resources!
Lenten Resource Please join us this Lent for an in-depth exploration and conversation around the Temptation of Jesus in the Wilderness. After an initial exploration of the Biblical text in the first week, we will have five unique sessions focussing on how five different theologians and saints have approached Jesus’s Temptation, looking for their unique wisdom and insight to this event in Jesus’s life and ministry. We are excited, as well, to have each session led by a different person from the Diocese! Hopefully this study will enrich your Lenten journey. We’ll gather via Zoom on Thursday evenings through Lent, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Please contact Barbara Labrecque at the Diocesan Office to register for the study. Schedule February 15 – Rev. Br. Jason Carroll (Biblical Introduction) February 22 – Rev. Greg Clark (Karl Barth) February 29 – Most Rev. Greg Kerr-Wilson (Rowan Williams) March 7 – Rev. Chris Roth (Church Fathers) March 14 – Rev. Br. Jason Carroll (Fyodor Dostoyevsky) March 21 – Rev. Elizabeth Short (Deitrich Bonhoeffer) PLEASE NOTE: If you have registered and not heard back, please resend your request to blabrecque@calgary.

Funerals/Memorials Services
Jean Samis' sudden passing has caused some people to inquire about planning a funeral. Should you wish assistance there are forms in the church office that you may take away and ponder over and hopefully fill out.
Should you decide to fill one out you may bring it to the church office.
We will make a copy and give the original back to you. The copy will be stored in the secure "Planned Funerals" file to assist the church community in planning your funeral when that time arrives.
