The Only OnePastoral Note from Rev. Seth Enriquez Our family has a few movies on repeat. Emma (2020), Spirited Away, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy whenever I have a say. In fact, when my wife Brit spent a weekend in Toronto for her best friend's wedding, I plotted a Lord of the Rings movie marathon with my little girl Eve. Not our first attempt. We usually watch the first movie and then parts of the last. The middle movie The Two Towers has too many dry scenes to capture our attention. Probably the same can be said about the ministry of Jesus found in the bible. ... For more infomation visit:

Howard's farewell lunch.
Howard’s final Sunday will be August 27. To celebrate his retirement, we are planning a not-quite-potluck lunch after the service. I (Virginia) would like to ask five cooks to prepare a lasagna big enough to serve 12. Please email me at virginia@gvhaase.com if you are able and willing to do this. Everybody else, please bring a salad. A cake will be ordered from the grocery store.
Blessings - Virginia on behalf of Parish Council

Report on the financial position as of June, 2023.
Income $ 74,617 It is important to note that the $4,787 loss includes the generous donations applied as of June 30 from the stewardship campaign last year to retain Seth for 2023. As you all know, Seth will no longer be our Associate Priest as of September 1. While we hope that you will continue to support our clergy and staff, if you donated to the campaign and you do not want your donation to continue to support clergy salaries once Seth has left, there are a few options. |

On August 7th we remember John Mason Neale.Anglican priest, scholar and hymn writer.
In 1854 Neale co-founded the Sisterhood of St. Margaret, an order of women in the Anglican Church dedicated to nursing the sick. Many Anglicans in his day, however, were very suspicious of anything suggestive of Roman Catholicism. Only nine years earlier, John H. Newman had encouraged Romish practices in the Anglican Church, and had ended up joining the Romanists himself. This encouraged the suspicion that anyone like Neale was an agent of the Vatican, assigned to destroy the Anglican Church by subverting it from within. Once Neale was attacked and mauled at a funeral of one of the Sisters. From time to time unruly crowds threatened to stone him or to burn his house. He received no honor or preferment in England, and his doctorate was bestowed by an American college (Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut). However, his basic goodness eventually won the confidence of many who had fiercely opposed him, and the Sisterhood of St. Margaret survived and prospered. Neale translated the Eastern liturgies into English, and wrote a mystical and devotional commentary on the Psalms. However, he is best known as a hymn writer and translator, having enriched English hymnody with many ancient and mediaeval hymns translated from Latin and Greek, including the following: |

Gift Cards Project Update.
We were very pleased with the response to our survey and the interest that has been shown for this project. However, Corporation has decided to hold off on the grocery gift cards for now. The level of interest for one store and the number of sales required to get to a good return will take too long toachieve. Given that current interest rates are high, it is in St. Michael’s financial interest to continue toinvest the funds that would be needed to start the program in an investment certificate at the bank. We have the information required to start the program and we will monitor interest rates and returns from the bank so that we can start up if it becomes a better deal for the church. Thank you for interest in this project. We do hope to start it up at a more advantageous time. |
