Think about all of the voices that are speaking into your life right now: friends, coworkers, family members, your own inner voice. Are they mostly bad? Good? Are you able to drown out the negative ones, or do they overtake your every thought?

While he was still speaking, a bright cloud covered them, and a voice from the cloud said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!’ Matthew 17.5

If I heard the voice of a cloud telling me to listen to someone, I imagine that’s just what I’d do. God’s voice is the most important sound among the many noises competing for our attention.

How can we concentrate on his voice? Reading scripture is one way. Praying is another. We’re also obeying his voice when we do what he’s commanded us to do - feed the hungry and clothe the naked, for instance.

My dear friends, I want to encourage you to ask God to help you concentrate on the voices that matter in your life. Ask him to help you listen closely so you’re able to focus on and take strength from the positive voices in your life. God’s voice may be the only one left after that filter, but it will always be there to encourage you.
