Welcome and congratulations! We’re delighted that you’re interested in making St Michael's a part of your wedding celebration, and we want to do everything possible to make sure that your wedding is a wonderful and memorable occasion. Even more importantly, we want to do all we can to help you build the strongest possible marriage as you begin your new life together. We hope this will be a time in which you come to know God’s love in Jesus Christ, either for the first time, or in a deeper way.
Christians hold marriage in very high regard. The Book of Alternative Services reads:
“Marriage is a gift of God and a means of God’s grace. It is a way of life that all should reverence, and none should lightly undertake.”
At St. Michael's, marriage preparation is open to people at all stages of their spiritual journey – everyone is welcome! Detailed information on each component of your wedding are shown here. Feel free to contact us at any time with specific questions.
Once you have decided St. Michael's is the right fit for you spiritually and financially, please contact our us to confirm availability of the church.
With all this in mind, we have developed the following to help you decide whether St. Michael's is the church for you as you plan your wedding.
Step 1, Start the Conversation.
A great first step is to email us at [email protected] to check if the date you are planning for is available. Once we have confirmed the date is free, we will set up a time to meet with our clergy who will then contact you and your fiance for a meeting via zoom.
Step 2, Find a Rhythm of Worship.
Joining our church community for weekly worship will give you a clearer sense of whether you would like to be a part of the church family, strengthen and encourage your faith, and better equip you to live everyday life as someone learning how to follow Jesus. You can watch our services on YouTube to see if we are the right fit for you. Our experience (and expectation), is that worshipping with us regularly helps form a solid basis for the promises you will make on your Wedding day.
Step 3, Strengthen your Relationship.
“Your wedding is one day – your marriage is a lifetime.” We want all couples married at St Michael's to have the strongest possible marriage. To help you achieve this goal, we ask you to participate in our Pre-Marriage Course. During this time, you will have the opportunity as a couple to discuss everything from communication, to sex, to spiritual concerns. Visit our Pre-Marriage Course page for more information and to sign up.
Step 4, Explore Faith.
Many couples have found the months before their wedding to be a time of spiritual searching and growth. With this in mind, everyone being married at St Michael's participates in our faith basics Alpha Course. It is a fun and relaxed 7-week course where all questions are allowed, you can’t fail, and you can’t get kicked out! You can find out more about the course, when it’s next offered, and register, here.
It is your responsibility to obtain a Marriage Licence from the Province of Alberta and bring to your wedding rehearsal.
All are welcome in the Anglican Church, however to be married at St. Michael's at least one of you must have been baptised in a Christian church. Please contact us if you have questions regarding this policy.
Marriage of divorced persons
The Anglican Church of Canada allows for the marriage of divorced persons. If one or both persons wishing to be married are divorced, please advise us when making your application to be married at St. Michael's in order that we might process your application according to the process set out by the Anglican Church of Canada.
Who Can Marry Us?
All people getting married at St. Michael's must be married by an Anglican Priest. Our Priests are happy to be the ones to marry you, but if you would like your own Priest to marry you please let us know so we can make the proper arrangements for that. We are unable to host ministers from other denominations.
