Our Incumbent Priest
The incumbent priest at St. Michael’s Church, Canmore, is the Revd Jesse Holland.
Ministry Experience
Jesse brings more than forty years of experience in church‑based ministry, including working with Youth for Christ, schools work, and full‑time chaplaincy and pastoral ministry. He has also served as a College, Scout, and ATC Chaplain, and has over twenty‑eight years of ordained ministry within the Church of England, the Anglican Church of New Zealand, and—since 2024—the Anglican Church of Canada.
Theological Education
Jesse studied theology in London and Oxford, earning a BA (Hons) degree in Theological and Pastoral Studies from Middlesex University and a Master of Theology degree in Applied Theology from the University of Oxford.
Teaching & Theological Approach
With a commitment to exegetical preaching and a flair for controversy which encourages a willingness to engage challenging topics, Jesse thrives in both theologia polemica—defending orthodox doctrine amid the complexities of the 21st, and apologetics—the discipline of reasoned defense of Christianity, and not apology in the modern sense of saying “sorry.” (1 Peter 3:15)
His aim is to capture attention, provoke thoughtful reflection, and encourage people to step beyond the status quo to choose God and His word in Christ, whilst also giving reasons for the Christian faith—explaining why Christianity is true, credible, and meaningful.
He also urges the wider theological community to confront difficult and uncomfortable issues with clarity and courage.
Biblical Scholarship
Jesse believes that neither the Church nor society has anything to fear from honest biblical scholarship. His guiding conviction is simple: to live it fully and explain it simply, one must understand it profoundly.
